Here's Your Chance To Pick The Songs on Andre's New DVD!!

Here's Your Chance To Speak Up!!
Hi to all Andre's Fans,
I have recieved a letter from a gentleman at Denon Records that I have been writing with and he has some very exciting news.
Here is what he wrote me ...

"We are planning to release an André Rieu Greatest Hits DVD!!! We just received Andre's blessing. I was wondering if you would like to have some fun with this and offer readers of your site a chance to choose their favorite André DVD moments. Just have your fans email their favorite DVD moments from any André DVD – then we will calculate the top 15 or so, and make a Greatest Hits to release in 2009! This could be fun."
I have made this page for all of you to write here what yours would be ~ YOU will be a part of deciding what DVD moments will be on his Greatist Hits DVD!! Just write your favorite in comments and I will cut and past them and send them on to the man at Denon Records!! I have already put mine in there. This is the first chance we've had, so lets show Denon that we are Enthusiastic in Promoting and Helping André!!! They are also taking votes on the Denon Site, let's show them we can get more votes from our fans! This is for ALL fans, not just American Fans!
Be sure you name not just your favorite piece, but from what DVD it is on! Again ~ Let's ALL of us show how enthusiastic we are about this so André will see. :)
You can pick ONE and only ONE DVD Selection and it must be from a Denon DVD! When you choose your selection, and what DVD it is on, check and make sure that DVD is made by Denon. You can either look on your DVD, or here's the link to the full Denon Catalog:
http://www.denonclassics.com/sites/denon/dcDetails/Andre_Catalog.pdf
If you have a problem writing it in the comment section here, you can email it to me at: luvberry@charter.net and I will forward it to Denon with all the others. START VOTING!!! :)
For those of you wondering, Meditation does NOT qualify, it must be a Denon DVD.

  1. I didn't have to even think about this one ~ My favrite DVD piece is Toselli Serenade on the DVD "The Homecoming!" :)

    I read this quickly.
    Can we only list one?
I like Toselli Serenade very much, too. But I think it might be between 3rd and 5th on my list.
    Great idea!!!

  3. Yes ~ You have to pick just one, the one that would be your very favorite. And be sure that you add which DVD you like it best on!

Guess my question was kind of dumb. If they get the large response we hope for, they would have a heck of a time tabulating the top 15, though some contests let you choose more than one.
This is going to be hard. I have so many favorites.
    Fun though!

I want to have one of Carmen's songs as my favorite, but I must say "How The West Was Won" from the Tuscany DVD. That was the first time I had heard Carla, and her voice just soars on that song. She's simply amazing.

That said, there are so many other wonderful songs on my DVD collection that I'd like to see included.

  6. It's HARD to pick just one isn't it!?! Imagine how hard it's going to be for Denon when they have to choose which ones though! And then they have to hope they pick the right ones, and it sells good! :)

It's nearly impossible to pick just one when I love so many DVD moments. But if I have to choose one, it would be Wolgalied from Live in Vienna. His face says it all.

Gosh Sue, I have so many favorites! But I think I would have to say "Meditation", but it is on the VHS "The Vienna I Love". Does that count or do I have to choose one from a DVD? I don't think it is on any DVD that I have. Please let me know.

I would have to say Wolgalied from Live in Vienna.

  10. Whoever voted Wolgalied from Live in Vienna ~ you forgot to put your name. We have to have a name to send in with each vote. Just your first name is fine. :)

It's starting off good, I've been getting votes in email too. I really hope we can show André that his fans want to be a part of this!

  11. Eileen,

I will email him and ask him to be sure, but I think the term DVD is loose on this. I am sure that it is any of Andre's video recordings.
I will check to be sure though.
I know someone else that Meditation is her favorite! :)

This is tough. I have to make a hard choice between several and I like the ones already named. However, I think I will pick as my
very favorite "Concierto de Aranjuez" from the DVD "The Homecoming".

Oh PLEASE!!!! How cruel to allow us only one! Well, I like all the ones listed so far, and have many other favorites as well; but, one classic that I would hate to see missing from this collection would be Vienna Blood, from New Year's in Vienna! It's one of the first pieces that made me tumble head-over-heels, with head still spinning, into this Andre realm. ~ Chris T.

Hi Chris, I almost chose Vienna Blood, too. It's right up there along with Voices of Spring, the first thing I ever heard him play at a live concert and I was in total awe! Oh well, I have already chosen, so I will not start thinking of all the rest of the pieces that are so wonderful!

Yes, it is nearly impossible to choose just one, however I just love the Bach "Air" - Track #6 on the "Dreaming" DVD. It is so perfectly beautiful for the eyes and ears and the soul. As André says in his introduction, it captures a moment of peace, love, and goodness with the music they must be playing in heaven.

So now I'll sign this so my vote will count! :-)

I hate it when we have to pick just one, but THE ONE has to be Toselli's Serenade in The Homecoming because that's the one that made me jump out from my bedroom to see who's playing on PBS, and soon helped me discover that André is THE ONE we've been listening to for the past 18 years.

    3 Votes here please:
Alice + Dad: Toselli's Serenade in Homecoming
    Mom: Titanic in Schonbrunn DVD

Oops! Sorry, Sue, you need names..right..

    Dad is Charlie
    Mom is Wai Ying

p.s. Don't get it wrong, Mom likes Toselli's Serenade very much too, but she also voted Titanic so I gave you something different.

Oooo, I'm very grateful to all those who have already nominated 'Toselli Serenade' - that makes it much easier for me ... My vote is for 'The Last Rose' (Instrumental Version) as in DVD 'Live in Dublin'. What a wonderful DVD this will be !!

  21. I agree, there are lots of beautiful songs to choose from and it's really difficult to isolate one only when you want to list several, but one thing I love about André's concerts is the humour. Based on that I'm voting for ~
FEAST OF FIRE from the Schönbrunn DVD

This is really hard. I can pick six to eight from each DVD. For balance, I do hope that Andre and Denon will include some fun ones too, such as my husband's favorite "Circus Renz" from 'Sylvester in Wein' though his very favorite tour concert number was the duel between Frank and Marcel playing Circus Renz and that is not on any DVD. "Swinging Bells of Limburg" from 'Songs from my Heart'-'Homecoming' is another fun one. Mine will be one of the more melodic ones and I'll narrow it down, soon.

It is so hard to choose just one, I'll have to pick, ADALGIO FROM VIOLIN CONCERTO NR.3, from ROMANTIC MOMENTS,

  25. I'm so happy how well this is going, I have gotten a lot of your votes in email and am saving them in a special "Denon" folder to send with all the votes on here.

I have written to ask about
"Meditation" and if it can be nominated being as it was VHS and no DVD. I will let you know as soon as I hear from them.

    Sue :)

  26. I also love Gadfly. I woke from a 9 day coma with this on TV in my ICU. It brought me back to the real world.

  27. I also love all of the choices nominated but those of you who have the Silverster Punsch DVD the segment with Bond "Victory" must be added to the list. Andre is just in heaven!!!

It will add a lighter scene for the Greatest Hits DVD.

    Hi Sue,
Just to choose one is very hard. I would have to say "My Way" from the Live at Radio City New York would be one that may not be on everyone's list. But it was beautifully done by Andre'! To watch the audience expressions throughout this solo was breathtaking, i.e., Nick Clooney in tears listening to Andre' play was worth the purchase of the DVD. Did you attend this concert, Sue? Just curious. NAN

Hi Sue this is great! FYI -"Meditation" is on Andre's "100 Most Beautiful Melodies" 6 box cd on disc #3........

My choice for Denon is from "Wonderland" George Gershwin's Porgy Bess "I Got Plenty Of Nuttin".

Hi Sue, "Meditation is also on the "Masterpiece" CD and is my all time favorite. I would love to see him play this at this point in his life because he played it at the Carre in Amsterdam in 1995(?)

  32. I know when he wrote to me it was "Fresh News", they had just gotten Andre's blessing he said to do it ... so they may not have it up on their website yet. You can see in the part I posted that he wrote to me though, that they said he was going to.

I still don't know about Meditation. I wrote to him yesterday asking about it being as it's on VHS, but haven't heard back from him. This is going to be The Greatest Hits DVD, so the choices have to be from a DVD, not a CD. Hopefully he will write soon and let me know about the VHS of Meditation. Be sure when you vote, you add which DVD your choice is on!

I'm glad to see everyone voting and I get more votes all the time in email too. It will be fun to see what the top ones will be with just our voting too! ~ Sue :)

I'm still deciding. Do you have a deadline, Sue?
My husband made his selection - Ode to Joy (All Men Shall Be Brothers).
Someone made the comment that they need more than just a pretty medody re a CD number, but one that will show well on the DVD. One of my friends suggested Komm Zigany and that is up there on my list, too. (From Live in Vienna and I think other DVDs, also.)
    So many choices!!!

    Laurie

    ReplyDelete
  34. There's no deadline yet Laurie, this is in the new stages for the DVD to be released in 2009. So we all have time to come up with our favorite. I'm sure he will let us know when the votes have to be in. They have to choose and everything from all the votes they get before the DVD can be made though.

I got your vote for Noel's Ode to Joy/Live in Dublin. I love that too! André is SO intense conducting that!!

So ~ how's the Dart thing working out Laurie? ;-)

  35. Anonymous15 July, 2008

It's so hard to choose just one, Sue.
However, I've decided as it hasn't come up yet, to choose the 'Opera Potpourri' which is No.8 on my D.V.D. 'Romantic Paradise'.
I believe that is the same as the Denon version of 'Live in Tuscany'.
I love the italian audience's participation, Andre's obvious pleasure, and the stirring entrance of those talented flag wavers the Gruppo Storico di Teriezi di Cortona . Then the rousing finale with the magnificent sound of those Egyptian trumpets playing 'The Triumphal March from 'Aida' while the flags are being twirled, sends shivers down my spine!!!!
That's probably W-A-Y more info. than you wanted but found I needed to rave on about it!!!
    Cheers

  36. I have heard from Denon and he said, "I am sorry to say that the repertoire must only come from DENON projects. The Vienna I Love is a Universal release and will not be eligible for our greatest hits DVD.

So that is the answer to Meditation, it does not qualify and when you pick your favorite DVD selection, make sure it is a Denon DVD and not Universal.
I will add the link on the main page of this to all of Andre's DVD's with Denon.

Yes it is so hard to just pick one, however the one I like is "Comm Zigany" from New Year's in Vienna. You can just look at Andre's face while he is playing and know that it is coming from his heart. It is also spelled "Komm Zigany" sometimes, but on the DVD it is spelled with a C.

  41. I guess I have to change my vote.

I will go with "Marina" from Denon Tuscany DVD. I would like to have something light and fun in the Top 15. I just love it when Andre is bopping around and everyone is dancing in front of the stage!

    Hi Sue,
Since you have told us that "Meditation" does not qualify because it is not on Denon, I have been trying to come up with another choice. After changing my mind many times I will settle on "You Are My Heart's Delight" from La Vie Est Belle. I especially like it on Live in Vienna with the Platin Tenors singing it, but that is not Denon.
    Thanks, Eileen
