On to the studio; the orchestra is there. Carmen asks if any of the members are ‘couples’. André enlightens us to a degree.. Meaning that he does not mention all of the ‘couples’.Click here to see ►André and DJ Otzi in Studio Singing
I just finished watching the Carmen Nebel Summer Special Show. You would have loved it! Unfortunately I missed the first 7 minutes.. But it appeared to be snippets of some of André’s past performances on the ‘Carmen Nebel Show’ for ZDF German TV, as there was Simone from Germany, dancing with André ... (sigh)
The programme was based on André with Carmen in and around Maastricht, interspersed every few minutes with studio performances by the likes of Nana Mouskouri , Lisa Minelli, Paul Potts and others.
André greets Carmen at his castle, they sit on the steps while he tells how much he loves his home. Then they go inside and he gives her a brief lesson in how to play the violin, and then he plays the first few bars of Toselli’s serenade. (another sigh..)
Carmen is introduced to the gardener, and they discuss the orangerie and the butterflies ... ‘Now I will show you my town’ says André, so off they set in horse drawn carriage. When they arrive at the Vrijthof, they sample a local speciality, the name sounded like ‘matches’ (matjes) and drink some schnapps. Then they sit on a red leather sofa that has appeared in the square. This is "the sofa" on which André takes his siestas. He tells us that he actually has 5 of them, and they are all the same format; one of them is in Australia, awaiting his visit.
Carmen is then introduced to the Mayor of Maastricht, and shown the place where André and Marjorie were married.
Carmen then conducts the orchestra ...The overture to … you guessed it, ‘Carmen’. Of course she does not have a clue, so the music is totally out of rhythm, but then André, who is standing behind her sets them straight. DJ Otzi arrives and sings, with André singing along.
The ‘children’s choir’ that we saw in Maastricht during the ‘Earth Song’ perform in the Vrijthof, or nearby.
André then invites Carmen into the ‘castle kitchen’, and shows her how he prepares ‘stoofvlees’ (zuurvlees) which is like a stew, and we end up with them in Vogelstruys enjoying a meal with the said stoofvlees’.
Lovely programme ... 2 hours long, it could stand by itself as a DVD! ... Adele
What a wonderful review, Adele. I just love Carmen Nebel shows. A friend has taped some through the years and they are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI hope we can get a DVD of this one.
I do remember Simone appearing on Carmen's show several years ago and waltzing with Andre. Incidentally did she make it to Maastricht this summer?
Thanks again for writing.
Laurie
Hi Laurie, that was just in November of 2007 that Simone was on Carmen's show with André. Sadly she didn't make it to Maastricht this year. They had that trip here in the Spring to the West Coast so close to Maastricht.
ReplyDeleteHopefully next year we'll see her there again. :)
Thank you Adele! That was a wonderful review. Was he on for the full two hours? Oh, I wish we could get ZDF here in the US!!
ReplyDeleteNo Kay, he was not on for the full 2 hours..
ReplyDeleteI would say about 8 to 10 mins of Andre & Carmen, then 4 to 5 mins of different artists performing in the studio.. this format was repeated throughout the show. So at a guess André totalled about 1 hr and a quarter..
One or two more days and the show will be on our website. For now we already have translated 26 minutes.... Our version will focus on Adre and Carmen, we will skip the majority of musical intermezzo's from the other artists.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Ruud and Ineke
Well that just made my day! Thanks to our European Andre friends we can enjoy the special too. Huge thanks to Adele, Ineke and Ruud, Sue, John and all the rest of you who keep us informed.
ReplyDeleteHi Adele,
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed the Carmen Nebel show immensely! Also the other artists in the show were great. Real "feel good" music for two hours! The Dutch salty herring is in Germany called: "Matjes". And the Maastricht stew is Zuurvlees: meat with onions. We were translating all Sunday long from morning till night. It's tiring out from one foreign language in another foreign language! Tomorrow we continue and send the text to John for corrections. We post it in two parts. Keep en eye on our website, it's coming soon!
Thank You Adele, for the review. We have a programm called Deutsche Welle (German Wave) here in Blumenau and they show some programs from ARD and ZDF, but not this show :(.
ReplyDeleteBut, thanks to our friends we are able to see it in a couple of days :). Thanks Adele, Ruud and Ineke, John... I don't know what would we do without you!!!
Love
