Interview With André and Marjorie on "De klassieken"
(A Classical Radio Station in the Netherlands)
This is mostly for those who understand Dutch as the interview is all in Dutch, but for those who do not, a lot of it is still interesting just to watch and listen to ...
June 22, 2010: The first part of the interview was rather difficult and reserved. "De klassieken" is a classical radio program of what André calls "the puritan elite". They are his critics, so he went right into the lion's den!
In the first part Maartje (who is the interviewer) asked critical questions and why he was playing for instance (something terrible as) a lullaby (Tula Tula). But going on she melted a bit. (of course!)
I liked the third part most with Marjorie. She told that she takes courses abroad when André is on tour. She registers under her maiden name and nobody knows that she is Mrs. Rieu. That makes it so she is not treated differently and that is what she likes. I liked her music choice, "Pantomime from Grétry", which is on André's repertoire.
Other parts of the interview that we did not know ... In his twenties André felt depressed. He did not like the conservatory lessons and felt horrible. The love of Marjorie rescued him. The family was not content with his choice (later on they accepted her, she said). They married and ran away for a honeymoon on the beaches of Tunesia. André fled from the music lessons without leaving a note! (perhaps that could be the three weeks of belated puberty he talks about with Marjorie). Afterwards he returned and finished his studies. ~ Ineke ... Click on link to watch and listen to it: ►http://player.omroep.nl/?aflid=11277905
Can someone lend a hand and let us know at what time approximately we'd "see" (kind of) Marjorie? It'd be nice to put a voice to her face! I think André and Marjorie did the right thing by running away for their honeymoon.... otherwise we won't have the André Rieu we know today! They're meant for each other!
ReplyDeleteHi Alice,
ReplyDeleteI kept fast forwarding it and about 2.30 on the timer on the right of the screen I heard another voice talking, and then Andre and the interview lady. I didn't actually see Marjorie.
Hope this helps??

I must add what simply beautiful grounds around the castle, if only I could've understood a word of the interview!!
ReplyDeleteMarjorie sounds lovely ..

I seemed to me to be special to actually hear Marjorie's voice. She sounds like I imagine she'd be -really lovely. It was a bit of a lengthy business to locate the spot on the video when Marjorie came into the interview. The photography was wonderful and showed the castle and grounds off beautifully. Some nice Maastricht scenes were shown too.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot to see in the photography around the Castle in this ... but it is long.
ReplyDeleteIt's also wonderful to get to hear Marjorie's voice. The camera stays off of Marjorie in the interview, but they do show her at a distance coming up to the Castle door and going in. If you put the counter at 2:22:45 you will see that .......... to hear her talking in the interview, put the counter at 2:24:20 and you will shortly hear her join the interview with André. She is of course talking in Dutch, but still so nice to actually get to hear her even for those of us who do not understand it. Ineke explained a little on the main Parlor page of what she was talking about.
I can't hear this at all?
