"What do you see are the advantages of working with Andre Rieu," I ask. "The advantages are that you sing before 30,000 to 40,000 people. We have direct contact with the people. If you play a role in an opera, you are imprisoned by it and cannot look into the eyes of your audience. Due to the requirements of your role, there is a sort of barrier, and therefore you are not free. During performances with André Rieu, I sing for the audience and can be pro active with my eyes and am able to display expressions. Many fans say it's like mass hypnosis. The eyes speak to the people and they feel better connected as if they are part of the "show family". People go home happy and what more could you want?
This is an interview that has been translated into English at Bela's request through his friend Sigrun, so that all English speaking fans would also be able to read it. We want to thank John for his many hours that he put into the translation of this long and wonderful article and also Ineke for the help she gave him ...

That was a great article! Thanks to everyone who worked to bring it to us. It's always interesting to see a little about the lives behind the stage.
I enjoyed this interview very much!! Bela is unique!
What a delightful insight into the life of one of our favourite tenors!
Congratulations to John, Ineke and Suzan for providing this translation to the fans.

Whow! Great work folks! Funny it mentioned Indiana Jones at the end, as that's exactly what I had in mind at the beginning. If Bela had not been a tenor, he might be Dr. Jones...then I felt like watching a bit of Anna and the King too.... What a collection!
Bela Bela! What a nice guy!
Agree with you, Al. What a long and fascinating article. Thanks to the translators and friend Sigrun for providing it.
Bela told a group of us following a concert in Reading, PA about some of his adventures with head hunters, etc. Very interesting, but I immediately thought about the dangers and the chance of the world losing that magnificent voice.
Laurie
So, what time DID you get to bed Sunshine ???.
The $5.00 per month telephone certainly "paid off" for this Marathon but it was well worth it.
A great article.
Isn't this a great article? It sure gives us an inside look at what Bela is really all about. And I believe that's what he wanted to put out there when he requested that we Translate it so ALL fans could read it. What an exciting life he lives ...
Kudos to John who spent the better part of a week working on this off and on ... it was not a Dutch interview, John had to put his German hat on for it, which along with it being such a long interview made it more difficult than usual.
Thanks isn't enough John, but THANKS!!! Sue :)
I loved this article. Thank you Sigrun, and thanks to John for your many hours of work on it. I was also in Reading that evening Laurie spoke of, and his stories were facinating. He is always so friendly and willing to chat with his fans, one of my favorites.
Thanks to everyone for bringing this very interesting article to us!
Eileen
Aah..
Wonderful article !
I am so happy to be a fan, and that a year and a half ago, I found this web site. Thanks a million for all the many hours of work..
