André Rieu July, 2011 Vienna Concert Cancelled

Schoenbrunn, 2011 Vienna Cancelled
For those who may not have seen it yet, André's Schoenbrunn Concert July 1st next year in Vienna has been cancelled. The notice is on his Website under 'Agenda' stating ticket money will be refunded.
*LATEST UPDATE ON CANCELLED VIENNA CONCERT*

Maik in Germany contacted the Schoenbrunn Castle and they sent him the following information. Thank you to Maik for passing this on to us.
*Rieu Concert Cancelled*

Due to other important commitments of André Rieu and his Johann Strauß Orchestra they are unable to perform their Concert at Ehrenhof of Schönbrunn Castle in 2011. An alternative date for the concert is not possible due to the commitment situation for 2011 .......... All tickets will be refunded!
But we are happy to tell you that André Rieu will give a concert at the Town Hall of Vienna on February 8th 2011 at 19:30. Pre sale will start on Friday, 10th September 2010.

I sure would like to know why it was canceled. A lot of us hold tickets to that concert, and it's certainly a disappointment.

And not to mention those of us who already acquired hotel rooms at nonrefundable rates. But, maybe it means the date of the concert has been moved. I'm sure there's a good reason we could possibly find out later. However, it's a judgment call. Vienna is still exciting to visit.

I don't think the Concert date has just been moved, because they say tickets refunded ... I don't know why they've cancelled it, but we can guess they must have had a really good reason. In time we will know more ...

As you say though Martha, Vienna is still a beautiful city to visit!

Hopefully we'll get an explanation later. It's disappointing, but André doesn't cancel a concert unless there is a VERY good reason.

I'm sure there is a very good reason why the concert is cnnceled.
Those of you that have booked hotel rooms, I suggest you talk to the management about possible cancelation because the concert will not take place.
Plans can change for eveeryone. They have for me. Missed Maastricht in 2009 because of an an untimely virus. Will always have regrets.
Can you believe? All these years, traveling the planet and giving an incredible number of concerts and never missing one until now!! That IS incredible. I'll bet he's the only artist with a record like that.

Vienna is a great city to visit, but expecially worthwhile with a JSO concert. I'm sorry that this is necessary.

Don't understand all this ,just hope it's not the start of something bad. Why is that cancelled and not others that are earlier. Hope we soon get to know the answers. All those booked for this concert with hotels etc stand to lose a lot of money.

My hotel and airfare are not refundable, so I will still be going to Vienna. It's not really tragic, as I spent a week there last year, fell in love with the city and vowed to return.

Extremely shocked and disappointed as had organised an extra 10 days in Europe after a River Cruise just so we could attend this huge event. The writings on the website about it being one of the best concerts ever and all the lead up work as it would be a Eurovision transmitted broadcast and one of the best Vienna has seen. How can the Orchestra suddenly get more important commitments when it was a "Sell out" concert and all the efforts we made to get in early and get good tickets makes us feel very 'let down'. If it was last minute sickness then that cannot be helped but to take our money then change their mind for something 9 months away leaves a sour taste in our mouths. We were so looking forward to seeing the concert in front of the Palace. Now all the extra holiday in Vienna arrangements will have to be changed. Andre is still advertising the Maastricht concerts later in July but all the good seats have gone and we cannot stay in Europe that long.

I'm very surprised and sorry to learn about this cancellation, so many of you made bookings for this and that, yet I feel blessed that I wasn't among those who could afford Vienna 2011, or I would feel totally miserable on my birthday today!! I hope they have a reeaally good reason!

I can fully understand everyone that was going to the Vienna Concert's disappointment. I had to cancel my trip to Maastricht this year at the last minute due to family illness and the disappointment, although no fault of André's, was still awful!!

I hope that everyone keeps in mind that in all his years of entertaining he has never cancelled a concert, other then last month when he was so sick.

So although there is disappointment, let's try to understand that he must have had a darn good reason and one that couldn't be helped, or he wouldn't have done it ...

Thanks for the update Sue on Vienna. I will say that changes do come to everyone and Andre too, and I'm sure to keep him on stage giving a lot of joy through music, he may now have to consider how he can best be effective, keep his fans happy and protect his health all at the same time. I'm willing to be patient for him whatever the decisions are, I'm not a rich person to take these trips, I just manage what I'm able to see what I can afford. I'm going to still have a great time in Vienna.

I feel very sad for those who have tickets booked for Vienna. Whilst I was not one of the lucky ones, quite a few from the Victorian Friendship Group had purchased tickets and booked accommodation and were so excited. Whilst they are devastated, they are all concerned that Andre's health is OK. I guess in the near future, we will know more. cheeRIEU, Val.

I would like to thank Sue for posting a link to CD Wow so I could order "A Midsummer Night's Dream - Live in Maastricht 4." A bonus, as it was available in the NTSC format (I can play PAL as well on my DVD player) which will allow me to loan it to my friends here in the Arizona. It won't be released until 24 Sept. but at least I know it's on it's way.

Thanks Sue for your web sight. I go there every day to see what is happening with Andre....

I realize all who were going to Vienna are disappointed, he has already rescheduled Heerenveen and then there are the two in Amsterdam to be rescheduled. Unfortunately I’m not in a position to go overseas, and have to wait for him to come to Melbourne, or newly released DVD/CDs and would be equally disappointed if he didn’t come this year but his health is of the utmost importance and must come first. We all know André to be a bundle of energy and this illness, I feel, has knocked him for six.
I respect his privacy but an update from Pierre would be nice.

Really, Really disappointed this morning Email to say that the July 1st Concert 2011 in Vienna is Cancelled, so sad, we had front row seats.
Hopefully we will be able to replace it with another concert, with similar seats Maybe he will do a couple more in Maastricht !
(Wife is disabled hence the need for front row!)

I am as concerned for Andres health as everyone else, and worry about the pressure he must feel about the JSO and other employees, but having said that I am feeling nervous because of the lack of information coming our way.

No satisfactory info about the reason for the Vienna cancellation and the lack of updates regarding the UK tour for which we and so many others have made arrangements.
If he is still unwell then he would have total understanding if say the Uk tour needed to be cancelled.

Taking away the ability to book specific seats was a big mistake which I had hoped would be rectified, but it hasn't and in consequence we have not yet booked for Maastricht. Its a great show for all who attend of course but is important for those crazier ones amongst us who love to get to the aisles and stage to be able to book easy seats for egress without causing annoyance to others.

Its all about communication at the moment ... we just need to know whats happening.

We are from Brazil and felt very dissapointed about this. We were planning our entire trip to Europe next year to attend this concert!!!
As other people comment ,the good places to the concert in Maastrich are gone!!!

We are very disappointed to learn the Vienna concert has been cancelled,as it is our Ruby Wedding next year, we had decided to go somewhere else, but after reading how special this concert was going to be we decided for Vienna. Our airfare is non refundable and non transferable, so I just hope there is a VERY GOOD reason why this has been cancelled otherwise we will be very angry

I agree with Richard Oswick, I too am feeling very nervous because of the lack of information. I check André's site and this site every day several times to see if there is some news.I know it is said 'no news is good news' but it is hard not knowing. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

Orchestra + Rieu just returned from 3 days extra filming in Mainau, rehearsals this and next week, doesn't look like England will be cancelled.

Don't know anything about the reason Vienna got cancelled tho.

All the best,
Simone Therese Ranger.

I totally understand the frustrations of people with plans for Vienna.
I have no idea of "why", but it is not unheard of to have "negotiation problems" and that is a possibility.
Incidentally, in 2006, when they played and filmed the first Schonbrunn concert, Barbara Streisand scheduled an outdoor concert at the palace later in July and it was canceled because of a severe rainstorn.
And, the year that JSO filmed in Radio City, they were first scheduled to perform and film an outdoor concert in Liberty State Park in New Jersey. (Andrea Bocelli had performed there in a very large outdoor concert previously.) Andre's was never listed on his Agenda, but we in the NY metro area knew all about it. He had to move to Radio City (indoor) because they couldn't work out the security details.

To all who have nonrefundable tickets, if you find another destination where you would like to go, most airlines will change your tickets and destination. There is a fee for this, of course, but it would be much less than unused tickets. I have changed my dates and destination and it wasn't terribly expensive -- if done early.

Good luck to all.

Hi everyone,
As well as cancelling the concert at Schonbrunn Palace Vienna next July I just saw on Andre's twitter page that he has now had to cancel the concerts touring the UK and Australia and New Zealand this year as he is still not well enough to travel.
The virus has really affected him and he hopes to reschedule them for next year. I hope that is not the reason he has cancelled the Vienna concert so he can do the other ones and be overseas at that time when we had booked to see him over there. Jacquie

I hope the money is going to be refunded form the New Zealand concerts. Where can we find out about this?
