Guido Diederen and His Orchestra

Guido Diederen was first violinist for André Rieu from 1995 to 1998 and at the time the youngest member of the JSO.
Born in the province of Limburg, in the very south of the Netherlands, Guido is the fourth generation of his family to conduct, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather and father, all of whom are Guido's heroes and a constant inspiration.

We, in Holland, know Guido's orchestra quite a while. He is stiff competition for André. Now also doing tours in the USA... He is imitating André,just trying to be younger and more trendy. He also performed "open airs" on a square in another Limburg city...
Maybe I am too sensitive, but I felt sad to read about him, just now that Andre is ill....

Well said Ineke. I was very uncomfortable reading about Guido. I had a look on YouTube to see what he was all about, but felt his concert was too much like a pop concert. I much prefer Andre!

Hi Hetty,
Yes, he can play pop music, but he also performs the same repertoire that Andre plays.... Well, that's life. I guess I had a dip
day today, anyhow!!

Obviously I only saw Guido briefly on YouTube, so don't know everything about the kind of thing he does, but it certainly didn't make me want to rush out and buy a ticket! I'm sure there are people who love him, but I'll just stick with Andre and the JSO.

It's always interesting hearing about former JSO members, and it's nice to read that he still keeps in contact with many of his old JSO colleagues. Of course it always stands that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I'm sure many more Andre-like performers will continue to crop up. And, of course, we love our Andre the best - NO one can match his combination of gifts, or that smile, I might add! ;-)

The page I made for Guido was not meant as a replacement for Andre, but as a additional possiblity to go and see a concert that many of Andre's fans would certainly enjoy very much.

He IS imitating André isn’t he but no-one is better than André. André is a clear cut above everyone else. He was born to do what he does and I have never been so taken with anyone – musician, singer, actor or whatever as I have been with André and the JSO. Whilst I was watching Guido all I could think of was André. His smile, his many facial expressions when he is playing. If this guy makes it – a lot earlier than André did - he will owe it all to André for he would have paved the way. But for me it is André now and forever.

I only came to know about Guido recently and to me it wouldn't hurt to have a little fun at a delightful concert. He's like André because he's also inspired by André. Don't we still love Suzan even after she's left, how about when Linda plays with Renate in their Medieval group, or maybe 10 years from now, little Akim is giving his own concerts, I would buy a ticket. Maybe André would feel proud to see the success of his talented ex-staff too? Afterall, he formed the JSO. Loosen up folks, you worry too much. Think positive and you'll probably feel better. No one can take André's place and you should trust yourself that André ALWAYS stays in our hearts!

Sorry this article does not do anything TO or FOR Me! Mr.Guido
does not measure up to Andre at all! But it does look like he is trying very hard to do just that!
Not to my taste at all! Its Andre
or nobody! I also felt very
uncomfortable seeing it!

I'm sure Guido's concert would be enjoyable to watch and I might buy a ticket if he was performing close to where I live, but I don't think I would travel to Atlantic City or Toronto or Cleveland to see him as I have to see Andre!

It is always great that there are young musicians coming up in the world. They are driven by their love of,and passion for music, and to perform to their best ability. We do need these people to play in the style they and their audience appreciate. To me it is not a matter of competition with other performers, but to give them opportunities to make people happy through music. There is far too much sadness in the world - good luck to Guido and his Orchestra.

Although I've been enjoying this site for quite a while, this is the first time that I feel obliged to comment......I agree 100% with Ineke, Hetty, Mary & Eileen. Spot a good idea and use it, BUT...make it your own, not a tacky imitation.
