André Rieu Crowned "Burgundian of the Year."

Maastricht Violinist Crowned
*Burgundian Title For André Rieu

His trophy cabinet is quite full with trophies, medals and other medals of honor. Since yesterday the Maastricht violinist André Rieu can also add to that the title of "Burgundian of the Year."
This is what the jury of the event's region 's Hertogenbosch published. The leader of the Johann Strauss Orchestra succeeds Thérèse Boer, wife of the well know master chef Jonnie Boer in this honor. Rieu was chosen because of his knowledge of Burgundian delights and gastronomy. Which is evident by viewing his web site where the violinist has published some of his favorite recipes.
On August 28, Rieu will perform in the Thiaff in Heerenveen and on 4 September in the Amsterdam Arena. A summary of his concerts in Maastricht will be broadcast by the German television station ZDF on 21 August.
Note: The "Burgundian's Hetogenbosch" is a yearly outdoor culinary event which takes place on the Parade, in the shadows of the Basilca Catherdral St. John's in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
Thanks to John for the Translation on this article.
*The word "Burgundian" refers to someone from the Burgundy region in France, which is particularly well known for its culinary specialties.

I hate to appear dumb.......but what does the word "Burgundian " mean? It's not in my dictionary. Wine perhaps?

We all know that Andre like to eat....especially desserts. The article says that it has something to do with eating.....but ?????

Unsigned dumb person.

Dear Unsigned dumb Person.

The word "Burgundian" refers to someone from the Burgundy region in France, which is particularly well known for its culinary specialties. Something that was adopted by the Dutch people, primarily in the Southern Provinces of that country. When a "Burgundian" title is bestowed upon someone, or is referred to as a "Real Burgondian", it is meant to say that this individual is a connoisseur of the fine arts of living, e.g. fine foods and wines.

John ~ Thank you for that perfect explanation in answer to the dumb person!

At the time I posted this article that you had translated (I will now admit) I didn't have a clue what "Burgundian" meant. Myself and a certain 'other' person I was on the phone with at the time even put it into 'Google Translation', but much to our dismay it came up as "Burgundian" in English also.

I decided to wait and see if someone else asked on here what it meant so as not to appear dumb. Now out of guilt I confess ...

Sue, dumb person #2 ... ;-)))

Ah Ha! Not sure if I'm not-so-dumb or dumb person #3, but I immediately thought of André's recipe of an Asian dish (Stir-fried beefsteak with oyster sauce)in his website, and his recipe totally makes sense to me (as a Chinese who can cook). Wanna try?

I'm sorry that I have to correct you.

The name of the Dutch master chef is Jonnie Boer, the name of his wife is Thérèse Boer.
Although 'farmer' is the translation of the Dutch word 'boer' their proper name is Boer!!
