How André Rieu Sought Out The Seekers
THE carnival is not over yet ... Not while Andre Rieu has The Seekers on board his latest tour as special guest artists.
Melbourne Herald Sun May 11, 2011 Last night, at Rod Laver Arena, Australia's fab four of folk joined the Dutch maestro and his orchestra for soaring, singalong versions of monster hits such as Georgy Girl and I'll Never Find Another You.
"It's a great compliment that André stands with us, as if we're serenading him," Judith Durham said. Athol Guy agreed Rieu's on-stage energy was "just electric. Andre is very outgoing and very entertaining".
Rieu, the King of Waltz, forged a connection with The Seekers after hearing Bruce Woodley's song, I Am Australian. Impressed, he tracked the quartet down and invited them to re-form for his Celebration of Music Tour. Keith Potger recalled: "It was very much, 'How do we do this?' Not, 'Should we do this'." "The makeup of his audience is very similar to ours," Woodley said.
"And after doing a few shows now, it's obvious that it all knits together very well."
Before the tour, The Seekers flew to Holland to rehearse with Rieu and were impressed with the maestro's command of every last detail.
