André Rieu The Thirteen Million Dollar Man, Despite his Illness
March 5, 2012 "Maastricht Closeby (Dichtbij)" paper: The Maastricht great master of the waltz, André Rieu, is being written about as being ill, and as a matter of expression in many German speaking countries, it appears he still has enough dough (money) to go around. Business magazine, Quote, the magazine which also brought the attention to our own Six Million Dollar Man William Vermeend, estimates that the piggy bank of the Maastricht stand-alone violinist contains about 13 million.
In the recent past, almost twice things went wrong: first in 2008, when his huge concerts in Australia cost him eleven million more than they yielded (Rabobankwas pretty upset, said Quote) and again in 2010, when the world famous artist had to cancel several performances due to a viral infection. Just as now, due to burn-out, Rieu had to cancel a total of thirty performances in Germany,Denmark, Austria and France. His 120 employees are continued to be paid, which places an enormous strain on the piggy bank of the company.
According to "Quote" the artist is quite capable of coping with this setback. In 2011 he obtained a turnover of no less than 63.5 million dollars, enough for a personal profit of 13 million.
Naturally "Maastricht Closeby" wishes its most popular citizen the very best in his recovery. Because we all want to see him perform of course on the Vrijthof on 22, 23, 24 and 26 June.
Thanks to John for Translating this for us ...

Mindyou at outgoings of some 850,000 Euros a month, that would not last very long !
Very true Swills, but don't forget that he has money coming in all the time on Royalties, DVD sales, CD sales etc etc even although he's not touring ... :)
Good comments.
Though they are not giving refunds on the postponed tour concerts, he also won't be paid until the concerts take place.
I do think it's all going to work out

I don't think that it is nioe to discuss about these financial problems of him. There is not the right moment now and of course HE has suitable specialists in economy to give him the best solution. If it is true that he owns that sum is talking about, he worked very hard for it at the expense of his health. It is very nice of him that continues to pay the members of his orchestra.
If we cannot help him, let's wish him to be able to pass through in a short time this difficult period of his life.
To Judd,
Data about Andre's finances appear in print in Holland, Belgium and Germany so problems are no surprise. And he has given figures and details in interviews and in print When he lists the data, you know you are getting the truth and not some writers sloppy research..
He is an extremely generous man and it's no surprise that he continued to pay everyone in the organization in 2010 and will do so now.
We all wish him well.
Laurie
