Magical Maastricht Gives Way to
Rieu
Maastricht by our Reporter: The Limburger: The normal 60 days the Vrijthof in Maastricht is being used for events per year is placing the Calendar of the city into difficulties.
By not counting half of the festivals which take place on the square each year, the standard for the amount of festivals is now being adjusted to achieve the norm of sixty events. The opening of Magical Maastricht this year is being delayed by one day to make room for an extra Andre Rieu concert on Friday, June 28th. The idea of the Maastricht world star to bring artists like Jermaine Jackson and Trini Lopez to the Vrijthof, is now already taken place. It appears that the orchestra leader knocked on the city council's door for an additional concert day in addition to the already six planned concerts for July. On the days in between the Rieu concerts, the stage will not be used, says the municipality. The reason? Sixty days is the norm.

I am of course very happy, because the more Rieu shows the better, but the municipality of Maastricht is again playing a very dirty little game here. Lots of people here in Maastricht are not too happy about this, but I doubt you'll care, and rightly so :P

Hi Richarda ... Do you mean the people of Maastricht are happy that André is getting the extra concert, or that they're happy that they are trying to stop him from having an extra one. I'm just curious. Sue
